Mexico. AKA where my heart is.

I just wanted to add this page to tell you all a little bit about why Mexico has such a huge place in my heart.

I chose to do my DTS in Ensenada, Mexico because I truly feel God has placed this nation on my heart. The first time I went down there I was 15 years old. I went with my church on a mission trip over Spring Break. We fundraised the whole trip and then headed off. We flew into San Diego, CA and drove down to the base. The instant we crossed the border, you could tell you weren't in the States anymore. The drastic change totally broke my heart, I remember the van was very quiet as everyone absorbed the shocking poverty. I have since done 4 spring break trips and I also staffed with YWAM Ensenada last summer for about 5 weeks.

I have fallen in love with Mexico. Sometimes when I say that to people they say "Why?? It's so dirty." It is true, Mexico is not the cleanest place. It's not the safest either; sometimes there is political unrest and instability in Mexico. However, if you look beyond the dirt and the cardboard lean-to's, there is a very beautiful culture. Every single time I have been down to Mexico I have been blown away by people's generosity. Oftentimes at a house build, the family we build a home for will make the most amazing home-cooked meal. That's a lot of food to feed a whole team! I have found that people in Mexico are incredibly loving and receptive to missionaries.

I wish I could explain how God has really placed Mexico on my heart. I acknowledge that there are many other nations that require aid, however right now my heart is really stuck on Mexico. Mexican children are absolutely adorable, and Spanish is such a beautiful language. I have made a lot of lifelong friends down there, and I can't wait to go back!!!
